The books here cover buildings ranging from the splendid residences of rich and aristocratic Lake District visitors to the vernacular architecture of ancient cottages and farmhouses of the uplands. And then there’s Pevsner, outstandingly authoritative in an updated and expanded version for the (still new) county of Cumbria, replacing the older and smaller edition for the now-merged historic counties, Cumberland and Westmorland.
